Alternative to this is using split-path cmdlet that comes with PowerShell. Using this cmdlet is much better than GetDirectoryName method because this cmdlet provides several other features.
I suspect your project control file may have been corrupted. Look in the project directory and use a text editor to open the .csproj file. You can then search for either
